A thieving con man duped a 97-year-old Deeping St James woman to hand over £80 and then stole another £220 from a drawer in her house.
A man in his 20s called at the pensioner's Broadgate Lane home on Friday and said he would clear moss from the roof.
She paid him £80, but he failed to carry out the work.
Instead, the cold caller talked his way into the house, saying he was looking for signs of a leak in the roof.
While in her home he took a further £220 from a drawer.
The woman spotted a bronze-orange coloured van - with ladders attached - waiting nearby with two people inside.
Stamford, Bourne and Deepings community policing inspector Rachel Blackwell said: "Thankfully rogue trading incidents are much-reduced locally, but I would ask families to warn elderly residents to be alert to anybody cold calling claiming work needs to be done.
"They should decline and seek further advice."
Anyone with information about the incident should call Lincolnshire Police on 101 quoting reference 267 of 22 November.
