Deepings Community Library is in the running to win a substantial prize of up to £100,000 to benefit its younger readers.
The volunteer-run library, saved by the community three years ago, is a finalist in the Persimmon Homes 2019 Building Futures initiative.
Persimmon Homes has joined forces with Team GB - the British Olympic Association - to give away more than £1m to support children in health, sport, education and the arts through the brand new Building Futures competition.
Prizes for the finalists - Deepings Community Library is in the education and arts category - range from £100,000 to £5,000.
The library’s voting page states: “We are committed to making the library attractive and accessible to young people.
“We would like to invest in moveable, attractive book shelving for the children's library to allow their books to be easily accessed and moved around to allow space for children's events, as well as appropriate teenage seating to improve the area for our teenage members.
“If we were awarded a large sum, we would transform our ‘pop up’ garden with artificial grass, hedges, deckchairs and outdoor games.
“This would totally transform what is currently an uninspiring hardstanding outside the back door to the library.”
Building Futures, supported by Team GB, comes on the back of Persimmon Homes’ hugely successful Healthy Communities competition which, in 2018, gave away more than £600,000 to support youth sport.
The 2019 Building Futures campaign is bigger and better than ever to bring positive change to even more children.
