Each week, Nub News selects a local event as our Event of the Week.

This week we report on the return of a popular Deepings event after an enforced break last year due to the pandemic.

The first Rose & Sweet Pea Show took place in 1912 and has traditionally always been held on the last Saturday in June in the Church Hall Garden and in the Priory Church of Deeping St James.

Sadly, in view of the Coronavirus Covid 19 pandemic, last year's show had to be cancelled.

However, as a result of the latest Government guidelines the church is pleased to announce that the 2021 Show will be held but at the slightly later date of Saturday July 10th, two weeks later than usual.

The horticultural competitions will be displayed in the church and there will be displays by local children’s groups in the Priory Hall gardens, along with refreshments, plants, and home-made goods on sale. There will also be a chance to win a good range of prizes in the Grand Draw as well as a Teddy bear parachute jump from the Church Tower.

Full details of all the competition classes can be found here, including classes for children.

The event will be fully risk assessed following the latest government Guidelines.

The church's Nick and Kate Drewett said on social media: "Each year the show has raised approximately £3,000 to help towards the day to day running costs of the church in addition to the many events organised through our Social Committee and Mission Committee which also generate further funds for worthy causes and the church.

"We hope you will be able to join us for an afternoon of fun and relaxation in the grounds of our beautiful church."

You can list your events - e.g. shows, films, sports fixtures, quiz nights, local markets, steak nights at the local pub, jazz choir rehearsals, or anything else - on our What’s On page FREE of charge, just click this link the Deepings events page and then click the black Nub It button.
