A planning application to build five homes in a village near Market Deeping has been refused.
Seagate Homes of Spalding sought to build one 3-bed and four 4-bed homes on a 0.3ha site to the back of 23 Colton Close, Baston.
The 'full' planning application to South Kesteven District Council said the scheme for 4 houses and one bungalow was on a large enough site to be in keeping with the village.
The application said the scheme would meet local and national planning policies.
"The development comprises a sustainable development, in a sustainable village location, and one that will contribute to the wider sustainability of the locale."
It concluded: "The proposed development satisfies these criteria, and demonstrably complies with development plan policies. The proposed development is clearly located within the built up part of the settlement, and will not compromise the nature and character of the settlement.
"No adverse amenity impacts will arise in this instance."
However, Baston Parish Council opposed the scheme, noting it would harm the amenity of neighbouring properties and worsen traffic problems created by existing recent developments.
A report by SKDC planning staff noted the planning authority received 18 letters about the application, with them saying the scheme would affect the amenity of nearby homes, the homes would harm the character of the area and would worsen traffic and parking problems. The homes would further overstretch village drainage and facilities, plus there was a lack of community support for them.
Their report concluded the scheme should be refused as the scheme would extend the village and it was not supported locally. It added: "There is a fundamental objection to the proposal and it is considered that this
cannot be overcome."
