South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) has once again delayed the publication of details of the new leisure centres promised to the Deepings and Stamford.
At an SKDC Cabinet meeting in Grantham yesterday, Cllr Ashley Baxter (Ind) who represents Market & West Deeping ward asked when details of the new centre, including the preferred location, would be made public.
In response, the relevant portfolio holder, Cllr Helen Goral (Con), declared that while a request for funding would be presented to Full Council on 27 June, it was unlikely that the site would be revealed.
Cllr Goral explained that while she hoped that a more detailed paper would be presented to a Cabinet meeting later this year, she could offer no guarantee of when the negotiations with the landowners would be completed.
The new leisure centres were one of the flagship projects announced by Cllr Matthew Lee (Con) at a private economic summit in October 2017.
The promise was repeated in October 2018 at an event at Grimsthorpe Castle - which itself cost over £14,000 - where invited guests were informed that details would be announced in early 2019.
In March 2019, the council spent over £6,000 on posters showing conceptual drawings of the new leisure centres but again no details of preferred locations.
The Leader has stated that he expects the building projects to begin in the financial year 2020/21.
