The installation of a bike rack in Market Deeping, which has provoked uproar, is to be reviewed.
Earlier this month, Lincolnshire County Council, erected the bike rack outside Linford's fish and chip and restaurant in Market Place.
Town councillor Adam Brookes said on social media: "It's fun to see how the eye-catching design has already prompted debate. The design perfectly illustrates the benefit of the bike in our congested streets given that ten bikes can be stored in the space taken up by a single car."
He also said on Facebook: "It's a surprise to find the County Council have pushed ahead with this but I certainly welcome it."
Coun Brookes added: "It would be nice to see some more progress from the County Council to make Deeping a less hostile place for walking and cycling though. Let's hope this is just the start."
However, Nub News understands '190' messages opposing the siting of the bike racks have been posted on social media or sent to local councillors, with barely a handful in favour.
The issue came up at the 'full' meeting of Market Deeping Town Council this week.
Deputy mayor Virginia Moran told Nub News News after the meeting: "We are disappointed that Lincolnshire County Council have despite being in consultation with us on style and position of cycle racks, they have decided to just install this in the centre of a Conservation Area, in front of listed buildings, where it's completely inappropriate.
"We want it to go away and we will continue to have correspondence with Lincolnshire County Council."
Market and West Deeping district councillor Ashley Baxter told Nub News: "I welcome new cycle facilities but this looks like a waste of money. If the county council did a meaningful consultation with residents, they would have discovered some really good ideas to improve cycle infrastructure in the Deepings.
"Unfortunately, this is another LCC idea imposed on us from Lincoln."
Fellow district councillor Rosemary Trollope-Bellew has messaged executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council, Coun Richard Davies, asking for the bike rack to be removed, saying it does not fit in with its surrounding and calling for Market Deeping Town Council to be consulted before any more are installed.
Coun Trollope-Bellew told Nub News: "I have had a large number contact me regarding the cycle rack, more for it to be removed than stay.
"They are happy to have one but it would seem that the site chosen is causing major concern and the type and colour of rack."
"I asked the chairman of the town council if I was to contact highways for its removal, as Holbeach [who also seek to remove their bike rack] and she responded yes.
"Having been in contact with Coun Richard Davies, he has suggested that it be reviewed in a months time."
