Santa is still on his way to the Deepings!

The Deepings Lions Club says unless Covid-19 rules change, their much-loved tradition will continue.

A club spokesman has posted on Facebook: "For over 40 years Deepings Lions & Rotary’s Santa has during December visited the streets of Market Deeping, Deeping St James and the surrounding villages bringing joy and festive cheer to young and old alike."

The annual event aims to raise funds which are ploughed back into the local community helping individuals in need of assistance and organisations that provide services benefiting all who live in the area.

The spokesman continued: "This year (2020) Covid-19 has placed restrictions upon normal life as we have known it, causing the changing of plans and disappointments for us all.

"We also know that this year has been tough and difficult for all of us but this is the only way we receive funds to help the local community so please if you can give generously.

"Unless the current Covid-19 regulations change between now and Christmas, Deepings Lions & Rotary Santa’s Sleigh will not disappoint. Children of all ages, as in years past, can see him as he visits the streets of the Deepings and the surrounding villages throughout December."

The Deepings Lions and Rotary Sleigh Team says plans are well in hand to ensure that current Covid regulations are complied with by Santa and his team of helpers.

"Social distancing will be adhered to, therefore unlike previous years, children and family members will not be allowed on the sleigh, but will be able to see and wave to him from inside or outside their homes.

"This year we are primarily trying to bring a little happiness to The Deepings in what has been a difficult year for everyone, however we do appreciate that people enjoy being able to give something to be used to help others so we will let you have details in due course," continued their statement.

Deepings Lions also promised further updates and royutes would be posted on social media in the coming weeks, as well as details on how to donate to Santa's sleigh, along with any changes caused by any amendments to local or national Covid-19 government regulations.
